What is the right against involuntary servitude?


No person shall be detained solely by reason of his political beliefs or aspirations.

No involuntary servitude in any form shall exist except as a punishment for a crime whereof the party shall have been duly convicted(Art. III, Sec. 18, 1987 Philippine Constitution)


What is involuntary servitude?

It is every condition of enforced or compulsory service of one to another no matter under what form such servitude may be disguised.


Exceptions:
  1. Punishment for a crime for which the party has been duly convicted
  2. Personal military or civil service in the interest of national defense
  3. Return to work order in industries affected with public interest issued by the DOLE Secretary or the President
  4. Naval enlistment
  5. Posse comitatus
  6. When there is a proper exercise of the police power of the State
